The History of Rasmussen Gas Log Sets

Gas Logs without Compromise - Hand Made in the USA for over 66 Years

The Rasmussen Gas Log Company has been a pioneer in gas log manufacturing for four generations, producing the most realistic ceramic fireplace gas logs in Whittier, California.

In 1907, Danish immigrant Rasmus Rasmussen opened a blacksmith shop on Philadelphia St. in Whittier, CA, where he initially crafted fireplace tools and screens alongside traditional blacksmith services.

Over the years, the business evolved, making products like truck body parts and welding rod handles for WWII shipbuilding. After the war, Rasmus' son, Ted Sr., opened a fireplace retail store, featuring gas logs among its offerings.

The company's defining moment came in 1958 with Ted Sr.'s son, T.R. Inspired by a plumber’s attempt to create a "dancing flame" effect, T.R. invented the sand pan burner, which is still used today to produce the most lifelike wood flame in a gas log set.

Faced with the challenge of finding high-quality gas logs, T.R. developed a unique molding technique. He used real wood logs to create detailed molds, capturing even the smallest bark details in the finest refractory materials. This meticulous process set a new standard for realism in gas log manufacturing. Over the years, T.R. introduced various log styles, including oak, split, char, birch, manzanita, driftwood stumps, eucalyptus, and pine cones, as well as geometric shapes.

Throughout its history, Rasmussen Iron Works, Inc. has remained dedicated to craftsmanship, value, and industry leadership, creating the most realistic ceramic fireplace gas logs on the market. The Spirit of the Blacksmith lives on at Rasmussen!
